Hi! I’m Carla Porter.
I thought you’d like to know a little about me, so here it goes.
My life as a designer all started in the kitchen. And it happened because I was young and naïve, looking for an easy way out. While earning my BFA in environmental design, I met a woman who only designed one type of room – kitchens.
I thought, Just focus on one room? You mean I can forget about designing the whole house? How easy!
Silly, foolish, naive young me.
From all points of view, there is nothing easy about designing kitchens. It’s the most expensive, busiest and complex room in the house. But starting my designer’s life in the kitchen trained me well. It launched me into designing architectural interiors for the… yep, you got it. For the entire home.
While kitchen design is NOT easy, I have no regrets starting my career on what is still my favorite room to create. Do you know why it’s still my favorite?
It’s not because appliances are way cooler every single year. And it’s not because I love to cook. It’s also not because of beauty I’m privileged to create.
It’s because, out of all the rooms in the house, this is THE room for families to be family.
It is an honor to be invited into a family’s life, to learn about who they are and then to help them create an environment where they can enjoy their lives with each other.
I feel so thankful I’ve had the opportunities to work with families and their kitchens in many Los Angeles, California neighborhoods. A partial list includes: Hancock Park, Beverly Hills, Fremont Place, Santa Monica, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Palos Verdes, Venice, Playa Del Rey, Malibu, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Topanga, Century City, Hollywood Hills and West Hollywood.
Maybe one day I’ll be able to add your neighborhood to the list.
